Lately in Photos: Food & Such

I have the biggest “want to make a diary entry” feeling, but all the photos and things I have from lately are so boring, haha. So most of this entry is photos of the yummy food I’ve had lately, and a few things that have happened or I’ve found online.

Oh but here is something nice, maybe you can play it while you’re looking at this entry (or whenever), my friend Shelly introduced me to this band and I’ve had them stuck in my head allll day (in a good way). I especially like the second and third song here.

This photo is pointless I just took a photo of my hair in this bun thing…
- See more photos and vids beneath the cut! -

I spent about 1 week straight basically doing one thing and one thing only. Building my new design for my website… My hand literally feels like it was breaking slowly throughout the week. I knew I had a not very ergonomic (comfortably fitting) desk setup, but I never realized how bad it was until this week. I actually had to make myself a makeshift wrist rest because I didn’t have anything and nothing seemed to fit under my hand comfortably (after days of this I finally bought one from ebay but it’s not here yet)…
What I made ended up looking super hilarious/creepy so I had to take some photos:

Eh, it was just a glove I stuffed with cotton, but it looks like a severed hand, haha.

The past several nights I have been actually waking up from pain in my hands and wrist… Haha, and you’re probably thinking “well then why are you still on the computer? Get off and get a life!” , well I intend to do just that starting after I make this entry.
Tomorrow morning me and Trev are finally going on a little weekend trip. We’ve been meaning to for about a month now and just haven’t gotten around to booking a place or didn’t have a free weekend. But we do this weekend so we’re staying in one of my favorite little towns until Monday… Should be very nice and relaxing!

Some things I have been enjoying eating lately…

Fried plantains with Cholula hot sauce.

Coconut sticky rice (substituted with sushi rice as I did not have sticky rice) made with coconut milk, brown sugar, and salt. With some mango on the side.
DELICIOUS.

Sushi rice with “rice seasoning” on it, which the label basically says is various spices, dried veggies, seaweed, mustard seed, and salt… It’s SO GOOD. And really really simple!

These weird “plum candies” I found at the grocery store. I’m pretty sure they’re Japanese as I can read some of the label (hiragana), but it might be from China…?
It’s sooo weird and yummy, it’s basically a salted plum seed, covered in candy.  When you get to the end and you’ve sucked long enough you spit out the pit (or at least I do, who knows if some people eat it?)…

I made some crepes and added poppyseeds to them. Then I made up some kind of random dip that contained fresh lemon juice, cream cheese, milk, and sugar. It was delicious! We also ate them with strawberries. This pic makes me hungry again!

For St. Patrick’s Day, I made this Irish Shepard’s Pie recipe, with ground lamb. It was deeeelicious. Only if I could do it over I would replace the peas with something else, ‘cos I actually really hate peas… I can eat them but I don’t like the way they taste… I thought I would not notice them too much, and I didn’t the first couple of times I ate it, but the third go around I was eating around them… Even still though, it was great! The lamb has such a nice hearty smell and flavor. Like living in a little Irish cottage in Secret of Roan Inish

Here’s a little kitty I randomly drew for my mom. I had some coupons to send her in the mail and since it was a kind of pointless letter I thought I’d make it more interesting with a cat and some rats.

I like the little rats, they look scraggly.

Here’s a photo of me from the day I took these photos. I like wearing my hair in a Victorian style.

Takkun sleeping in his little container of grass. The little dork. He was using it as a pillow, but he ‘kept making it fall on my desk and got dirt everywhere, haha.

This was the most interesting event of one of my days last week. It had rained really really crazily all night the night before, and the day after the rain everything was pretty soaked. Apparently Cash found a mud pile, and dug a hole in it. Unknowing to this, I went out to play with him and call him inside and this is what greeted me…

I did not let him inside after all, haha.

But he gave me a gift of mud anyway.

Here’s a random photo I took, I think I turned into a vampire or something. I look like I have circle lenses in, but I don’t, weird.

So enough with random photos, here are some little things I have liked lately and wanted to show you guys…

First off, this is amaaaazing, and I cannot wait to make one for our future yard! Hopefully we will live near woods and I can place it out in a really creepy way!

Another thing I have been liking lately, Natalie Tran’s you tube channel. She is pretty hilarious and amusing to listen to. I guess I like her so much because she has the same type of sense of humor as me, laughing at absurdities of people and situations and just the weird “what if”s and quirks of life. I really crack up over some of her videos. At the end of this entry are some of my favorites that I’ve watched so far…

(Image is a screenshot from Natalie Tran’s you tube channel)

Well, that’s all I have time to post tonight… It’s now 4am basically, and I need to get into bed asap! We’re waking up early, so I’m already not going to get enough sleep…

Oh and here’s another pretty funny one, this one is by TheArtOfDoingStuff.

Art I Like: Ooc

The other day when I was looking through those “What’s in Your Purse” meme drawings on Pixiv, I came across this artist who I liked so much that I wanted to post about her art on a separate entry.
Her artist name on Pixiv is Ooc, and of course her sites are in Japanese so I’m not entirely sure if that’s her complete name or username or what. But I will link to all her profiles and sites so that you can look through all her work if you like. And in this entry I’ve included some of my favorite of hers, along with the direct links of them to her Pixiv account.

Her style is so cute and sweet. I love how sketchy it is and how much it looks like really well done children drawings. A style I love and gets under appreciated by people most of the time…
I especially love the way she draws eyes with those smudgy little lashes, and those adorable smudgy lips.
The little drawings of items in a room with food and pets are so precious to me, they look like Polly Pocket rooms!

Check out more of her work here:

(I do not own any of the images in this entry, they all belong to Ooc. Please note that if the owner wishes me to remove them, I will gladly do so. I just hope to give her some exposure she so deserves and mean nothing bad by posting them! ^ u ^)

Lately in photos: Rainy Days, House Tours, & Screencaps

Today I decided to take some photos to put in this entry, because I feel like I haven’t been doing that as much lately and I miss it.
I haven’t been doing a whole lot new since my last post. Trev’s V-Day gift video game finally came in the mail yesterday, so I spent a big chunk of the day playing that, oops… And I’ve been watching some Guide to Life to cheer me up more, because it’s so funny and she’s so cute.

Today has been more productive. I applied for a job, took photos of stuff I’ve been needing to take photos of, caught up on some emails (although I still have a lot to catch up with ), edited some videos, and did some chores that needed doing… Hopefully I can get some book writing done later, too.
But tonight I’m going to dinner with Trev for some work dinner. So I have my hair up in rag curls and need to go get dressed after I post this entry. Should be nice.

Last night I painted my nails, and I like them a lot so I took a photo. The photo really doesn’t do them justice because the glitters sparkle so nicely and the pink is much more pretty in person. They look like princess nails to me.

Today I decided, since I was already taking photos, to take a photo of a little V-Day gift I gave Trev. I know it’s March now, but I never showed it…
It’s supposed to be me, hurrhur, holding a Valentine that says “I’ll be your pet”.
I made this little paper frame for it (that is not supposed to be a permanent frame but just as a card presentation okk) out of construction paper and an old book. Kind of like my heart garland, I used the left overs and some color hearts.

Click to see a lot more + videos and screencaps!

And this is the owl I made for him for our anniversary. It’s done in charcoal on drawing paper. It’s really quite big, 18×24. I need to find a place or frame for it because at the moment it is sleeping on top of my bookshelf and falls down with a slight breeze from shutting the door…. The problem with giving art gifts to the boyfriend you live with is that instead of it disappearing to their house after they’ve opened it, it just winds up back in your own art room, taking up space… Haha.   But it’s really just because I don’t have a good place to store this art stuff at the moment. And we don’t want to hang anything on the walls anymore being that we’re moving… Hopefully in the future I can build myself a little painting shelf of some kind to store unframed works…

Here are some photos I took today. It has been raining so nicely on and off all day. I love rainy days, they’re my absolute favorite. They automatically make me feel twice as happy, or add happiness to a day that doesn’t yet have any. I wish I could have spent it a little more lazily though, I want to spend a rainy day writing and drawing. Maybe tomorrow.

It was raining so hard that the creek flooded again (like in the entry I posted before).

My reflection in the glass door, I’m wearing a romper and rag curls.

Oh I almost forgot, I posted an “Outside My House” tour the other day! My house is too messy right now to do a full tour, but I thought this would be fun.

Some other stuff I wanted to post was about what I’ve been liking lately.
I’ve been reading A Little Princess, and of course since I’ve seen the movie about a bazillion times, I always picture in my mind these characters and aesthetics. I love this movie, and the book is just as good, too. It’s been helping me stay inspired for my book writing, because it has some similarities…

I also have been obsessing over Rule of Rose, the Play Station 2 game. I decided to finally buy it, after trying to find it for download or for super cheap somewhere and realizing it was not going to happen… It was more than I would ever normally spend for such an old game (and used!), but I figured “I’ll sell it back” and just decided to go for it. It’s a pretty unique and rare game, and I think it will help me a lot with my book writing inspiration (if that gives you any more clues as to what it’ll be about, haha)…
Here are some screenshots of both. You might be able to view them larger if you click them.

Spoilers to the movie A Little Princess (1995) and the game Rule of Rose for PS2 (2006).
Although can it really be called a spoiler when they’re that old? Still, I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun…
(These are just screencaps anyway)

(Most of these A Little Princess screencaps were taken from Eras of Elegance.)

Most of the images were taken from Rule of Rose Wiki, which is a very in depth community site all about the game. Definitely worth checking out if you’re as obsessed with it as me and can’t actually play it at the moment…

The music is actually quite good too. Violin creepy kind. I love good game music. I literally downloaded the Silent Hill soundtrack, haha.

And speaking of writing and books, I posted a video of my book notes of so far. It’s nothing exciting, or at least, it’s probably only exciting to me. But I have a notebook full of little notes and doodles and ideas and writing and character drawings! Even a paper doll I’ve made (and still need to paint). I also have pages of notes on my computer. I’m so excited about all of this!

Well, that’s it for now. I must go get dressed or I will be late for a very important date!

Quick Update About Your Blog Links & Some Music

Today I was going through and organizing some of my RSS settings, and I was thinking “hmm… I wonder if I have everyone on my RSS feed that I mean to include?” Since, you know, people sometimes start new diaries/blogs and you never realize it, or maybe you thought you added them and you didn’t…

Anyway, the purpose of this post (and this creeper cat turning his head around to see you) is to ask every body to comment or mail me with your blog/diary link!
And I know you can do it because everyone loves to linklinklink themselves out so you can get more views and such. So please don’t hesitate to comment here and leave your link! I want to be familiar with people’s blogs and especially people that follow my posts.

And if you belong to any of these “search for blog” sites, I made profiles for mine… So people can use that to follow this diary if they prefer (and of course RSS always works too).
NetworkedBlogs.com
Bloggers.com
BlogLovin.com
Just thought I’d mention those for anyone who also wants to join them.

And just so this post is not super boring, here is some music I have been listening to lately…

And right now I’m listening to this list of songs… Some good ones here. “Gorilla Vs Bears Songs of 2011″

Character Design Links I Like, & My Own for DL!

This is super random to post about, but I’ve been doing a lot of “character design” lately, because of a new storyline I’m currently working on.
Of course I spend a lot of time online searching for references, especially on DeviantArt when I’m doing illustrative stuff, so I thought I’d share some of the helpful things I’ve been looking at lately…
I’m in the middle of writing out character bios and story lines and such… And drawing them, and thinking lots.  As I get everything more figured out and organized, I’ll try to post some of it for people to see. ^ – ^

I especially want to do some of these character mood memes! : D

I also made a Character Biography / Info Sheet of my own, and thought I’d share it in case anyone could find it helpful. I tried to make it fairly general, but it’s obviously going to be more catered to my own character’s and the questions I deem important for them. Since most of my characters are younger and it’s not a war-based story, I didn’t add a lot about romance or fighting, etc. Some people might want to add their own bits about that stuff…
I’ll probably change mine up a bit for myself as I’m filling it out for each character, but here is the blank meme for anyone to use. No credit necessary, but letting me know you’re using it is welcome, as it will let make me feel good! Hurr hurr… >w<

Valentine’s Day Crafts I Like

Well it’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow. I had a lot of little V-Day projects and crafts I wanted to do, but I only ended up doing a few of them. I know it’s too late for most anyone to get any use out of V-Day craft links, but I still wanted to make a post with a few that I found and liked. Maybe it’ll be useful to bookmark them for next year or something.
I also made a video tutorial on how to make a heart garland! My first video tutorial, so it’s pretty ehh. Watch it anyway! ^ 3 ^

I actually have another week to do heart themes, because mine and Trev’s 5 year anniversary will be next Tuesday (the 21st). So I might go ahead and do some of these even though it’s too late for V-Day. I do plan on making some cake bites, and maybe some other nice dinner things, if I have the time and can get the ingredients.

All this construction paper is from making V-Day cards. I haven’t finished them and they aren’t going to be as cute as I wanted because I couldn’t find any paper doilies, but I might try to make some out of coffee filters if we have the right kind (see below links to see how to do that). I’ll just be giving them to Trev and maybe a couple of other people I know in real life, anyway. I was too late to send any in the mail, and I don’t really have many people I could send them to even if I hadn’t been late. I wanted to send them to my online friends but most of them live internationally either meaning the V-Day card would probably get there sometime around Easter. Oh well, There’s always next year I guess…

I did, however, make this little heart garland, which I’m pretty proud of. I got the idea from this, but I didn’t see a tutorial of it there so I just made it up myself. It’s the only V-Day decor in our house currently, so it’s a good thing it’s made of a neutral color rather than pink and red ‘cos it would have seemed really random otherwise. If I lived with just Trev, I would probably leave it up longer than for V-Day. Maybe I’ll just hang it in my room.

Here’s a really awful How-To video on how to make them… It was my first real tutorial video so it’s not too great, haha. I need to figure out how people make those things so effortless looking…

And last but not least, some various Valentine’s Day Craft links.
I didn’t make any of the below photos, tutorials, etc, so please refer to the corresponding links below to find out how.

Planners I like, & How to Find Them

I actually meant to post this entry a month ago, but I guess I forgot I hadn’t, because of Christmas and New Years and all…
Well at least it’s still only January, so if anyone is still planning to buy a planner for 2012, maybe this entry will help.

I always like to buy really cute planners, and I never had much luck in finding them until I turned to the interweb. Now I always get my planners from Asian goods sellers from Ebay, and usually don’t spend any more than I would if I was buying it in a store in my town. I’m so weird about planners, you have to get just the right one so that it’ll be exciting to use it all year long, through the good events and bad, the ones you look forward to and the ones you dread…
So I always look for a) a cute design that cheers me up, b) good organizational abilities (like having lots of sections and places to write), and c) a body shape that isn’t too big or too small, not too thick or too thin (because it needs to fit in my purse, but not be so small I can’t write in it easily). I usually spend a good few hours searching online until I’ve found the one I like best.

Here are some of the sellers I’ve favorited in the past because they either had or have good planners or other cute Asian good for reasonable prices. Most of these sellers are based in China and Korea, but they seem to sell goods from all over.
Sorry if some shops don’t have any items or aren’t listing anything useful currently. They tend to change and move out goods fairly quickly, bookmark it and check again later if this is the case.
READ: I am not vouching for these seller’s ability or honesty. I’ve only bought from a few of them, and have had good experiences. But use your own judgement when it comes to buying from sellers online, and refer to their user ratings and reviews to see if you think you can trust them, it’s up to you…

This entry shows the one I had for 2011 (scroll to near the end of the entry), it was a really cute Bonny Berry brand diary, really bright and happy feeling with a little girl and her cat throughout. Just about everything was in color and illustrated, no boring pages or sections. It must have taken the artist ages to prepare this layout!

Here’s what I have for 2012, a binder, a planner (Korean), a pink micro pen the seller sent with the planner for free, and lots of stickers!

My 2012 planner is less colorful, but I wanted something that felt a little cleaner but still had the cute illustrations throughout. This one has a little kitty called chococat (not sanrio), who travels with a bear to a chocolate land. It also came with some stickers, and some really cute divider stickers!

The stickers of the girl were a separate purchase from the planner. They’re called “Bonnie Series”, by another Korean brand. It was a really good deal, I think I spent $4 or something and it came with 6 sheets of stickers. And as you can see, it includes a lot of little stickers. I love being able to decorate my planner with stickers all year, they make it so much more fun. ^ o ^

So far I’ve been keeping up with my planner daily. I always end up falling off on some months, forgetting to write, forgetting to keep up with it. But this year I want to really try to do better. I’ll have to get a real job at some point, so I intend to keep this planner with me throughout the day (in my purse) so that I can keep up with my schedule and have better organization between home life, art life, and work life.
I also wanted to organize more of my things and little scraps of paper. I take a lot of mental notes on paper and tend to just leave them lying about, so I wanted to organize them all and keep up with them. So I prepared a little binder for my planner, and then a bigger binder for large papers. The little binder (with the kitty eyes) is actually a binder that a planner I had in 2008 came in. It’s just a plain black leatherette binder, it has some organizational compartments inside. It was actually really useful and the perfect size, so I decided to keep my slightly smaller 2012 planner inside of it, to help protect the cover and to keep some pens and stickers inside safely.
I wanted it to look cute so I made and glued on some kitty eyes, so now it looks like my kitty Twitch.

The first illustration comic (shown on the first few pages which was the monthly calendar) shows him trying to get a job at a chocolate factory, falling asleep in the interview, and getting kicked out of the interview. It’s really cute! ^ u ^

At the same time I bought the stickers and planner, I also got this purse organizer (from a different seller, but also Asian goods — they’re always cheaper and much cuter!). This thing is crazy useful. It’s pretty small so it fits perfectly in my purse without being too small or too big. It has a TON of card holder slots, one on the outside and one on the inside where you can keep your more important cards safer. And it has little compartments all throughout to put your various things (cell phone, wallet, etc). And the great thing is, you can just pull it out and put in in another purse if you’re switching out and wanna do it quickly!

Here’s the binder I’m now keeping all of my random scraps of note paper, stuff I write down and don’t want to lose. Off the top of my head I know I have sections for: Everyday to-dos, Master to-do list, daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal to-do and cleaning lists, birthday tracker, blog ideas list, art ideas, items to make for etsy ideas, webdesign ideas… The list could actually go on. I write down ideas almost everyday it seems like, and of course it would be a total shame to just forget about them all and let them fall apart in some random place in my room, so I like keeping them all safe so I can refer back to them easily when I need an idea for something to do.

I even bought some organizing tabbed dividers to keep them all organized by category.

And these pretty glitter notebook binders were on sale for like a dollar!

Here’s a gif from the seller’s listing of cutie chococat, it’s an actual flipbook animation from the planner!

Games I like: Limbo for PS3

I’ve been in the mood to play some good video games lately, and because we didn’t have anything good already, and my options are ordering something from GameHuddle a while ahead of the time I want to play it, or spend $10 on a game from BlockBuster that is probably chosen out of slim pickings to begin with (ie, not very fun), I just scratched the itch by playing some downloadable demos on my roommate’s PS3.

There’s actually not much to choose from there either, but they have a few good ones. One I came across by chance was something that I’m really really happy to have found because it is GORGEOUS and fun. It’s called Limbo. I think it’s more of a puzzle style game (which I usually don’t care for), but because of the beautifully creepy art and the calm but scared feeling it gives you, I really liked it.
I’m pretty sure it’s also available for computer and some other gaming systems…
I’ll definitely be renting the full version as soon as I’m done getting my fill of Silent Hill like I’ve been aching for for months now… Next weekend… If I can make it that long…

Here’s some video from Limbo:
